Patches: the block pattern puzzle game

Patches is a rectangle puzzle from the same family as shikaku. Each board is a grid with numbered clues. Draw rectangles so that every cell is covered exactly once, every rectangle contains exactly one clue, and the clue tells you how many cells the rectangle has.

Patches adds one twist: the shape of each clue chip says what kind of rectangle it needs, which turns many guesses into certainties.

• Square: the rectangle must be a perfect square, so a 4 is always 2×2.
• Tall: the rectangle is taller than it is wide, so a 6 can be 2 wide and 3 tall, or 1 by 6 standing up.
• Wide: the rectangle is wider than it is tall, so a 6 can be 3 wide and 2 tall, or 6 by 1 lying down.
• Freeform: any rectangle with the right number of cells.

• Levels 1–10: 4×4 boards.
• Levels 11–25: 5×5.
• Levels 26–50: 6×6.
• Levels 51–100: 7×7.
• Levels 101–250: 8×8.
• Level 251 onwards: 9×9.

As boards grow, fewer clues show their shape, so you rely more on counting and edges.

Undo removes the last rectangle you placed and Reset clears the board. Hint draws one correct rectangle for you; free hints refill over time and a short ad unlocks more.

Solved boards earn points on the This Week leaderboard, with bigger boards worth more, and the All Time board ranks players by the highest level reached. A daily streak rewards you for coming back.
